A Maritime Album
Pieces from the great treasury of photos in the Mariners' Museum are portrayed here, exquisitely printed. They are 100 windows on history, selected for the viewer for their photographic value and for the human stories they reveal. Each photo has a descriptive essay on its facing page; most photo are views we have never seen before: a man building a steam subamrine for the Turkish navy, the Canadian Lock Accident (in which Lake Superior began to drain into Lake Huron, launch of the USS ILLINOIS, etc. All the pictures are captivating. We added this title because we specialize in the unusual, the refined, the insight into marine craftsmanship. Might we characterize this as the "Ansel Adams like" maritime book. Buy it for the person who adores big moving forces, technical marvels of steel and timber, and little men standing by their prodigeous creations. --A tough sell sight unseen (over the internet), but those who see it cannot put it down.
